Our Society
The inaugural meeting of the Farnsfield Local History Society was held on the 8th May 2002. After a well attended meeting of local residents, it was decided that there was enough interest in the village to form a society. A committee was formed and some of those original committee members still sit on the present committee.
Membership fee is £15.00 for the year which runs from 1st February to 31st January.
To date we have about 40 members with an average of 26-28 members who attend the meetings and the numbers are usually increased by visitors who are charged £3.00 per visit.
Meetings are held at 7.30 in the evening on the second Wednesday of the month in the Village Centre on New Hill which is at the heart of the village. We have three or four outings to areas of interest throughout the summer months. August is a month of rest and our Autumn programme starts in September. The December meeting is the annual Christmas Meal. See our calendar of events.
The AGM is held at our March meeting.
We are continuing to gather as much as we can for our news archives and have a good collection of photographs and newspaper cuttings, many that have been given to the society by residents of the village.
